“How much does a website cost?” is usually the first question we hear, and the honest answer is: it depends on what the website has to do. But “it depends” is not useful when you are budgeting, so here is a straight breakdown of what websites actually cost in Malaysia in 2026, what drives the price up or down, and how to avoid paying for things you do not need.
The short answer
For a professionally designed business website in Malaysia, realistic 2026 pricing looks like this:
- Basic company website (5 pages): RM 1,500 – RM 3,500. Enough for a proper online presence: home, about, services, portfolio and contact, built responsive with a working enquiry form.
- Growing business website (10–15 pages): RM 2,500 – RM 8,000. More content structure, a blog, stronger on-page SEO and more revision rounds.
- E-commerce store: RM 2,300 – RM 10,000+. The range is wide because product count, payment gateways, shipping rules and order management all add real work.
- Custom web application: RM 15,000 and up. Once you need logins, workflows, dashboards or integrations, you are no longer buying a website — you are buying software.
Our own packages start at RM 1,499 for a five-page site including hosting, a .com or .com.my domain and SSL for the first year — so you can use that as a real-world reference point rather than a mystery quote.
What actually drives the price
1. Number of pages — but not the way you think
Pages are not expensive because of the pages. They are expensive because each one needs content decisions, layout work and review time. A 15-page site is not three times the price of a 5-page site, but it is meaningfully more, and anyone quoting the same price for both is planning to duplicate templates.
2. Custom design versus template
A template dropped in with your logo swapped is cheap for a reason: it looks like every other site using it, and it usually carries speed and SEO baggage. Custom-designed pages cost more up front and perform better for years. Ask any agency directly: “is this a template or designed for us?” The answer changes what the price means.
3. What happens after launch
Hosting, domain renewal, SSL, security updates and small content changes are where hidden costs live. A fair quote states what the first year includes and what renewal costs after that. Maintenance plans in Malaysia typically run RM 400 – RM 2,200 depending on hours included — ours are listed openly on the pricing page.
4. E-commerce complexity
The jump from “website” to “store” is bigger than most owners expect. Payment gateway integration (FPX, cards, e-wallets), shipping rates, order management and product uploads all add hours. Twenty products with simple options is one job; two hundred products with variations, bulk import and courier integration is another. This is why e-commerce packages are priced by product capacity and features, not just page count.
Red flags in cheap quotes
- No mention of who owns the site. Some low-cost providers keep the site on their platform — stop paying and it disappears.
- “Unlimited pages” for a fixed low price. Nobody does unlimited work for RM 1,000. It means auto-generated filler.
- No staging or revision process. If the first time you see the site is launch day, expect surprises.
- Hosting bundled forever with no exit. You should be able to take your website and leave.
How to budget sensibly
Decide what the website has to achieve this year — enquiries, online sales, credibility for tenders — and buy the version that does that job. You can always extend a well-built site later; you cannot easily rescue a cheap one. If you want a fixed number for your specific case, tell us what you need and we will give you a real quote with inclusions spelled out, usually within one business day.
